East Java Disasters Evenly in All Regions

SURABAYAPAGI.com, Surabaya - East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Managing Director Suban Wahyudiono revealed that almost all regions in East Java are prone to disasters. Based on East Java BPBD records, there are 12 potential disaster threats in the East Java region, where there are 11 potential natural disasters, and one non-natural disaster. "Eleven natural disasters are floods, flash floods, tidal floods, tsunamis, droughts, landslides, tornadoes, and others. While non-natural disasters are disasters from factories or companies such as gas leaks, explosions and others," Suban said confirmed Wednesday (1/23). Suban explained, natural disasters that could potentially occur in the northern region of East Java were floods. Then in the southern part of East Java, the potential for disasters is tsunami and tsunami. Suban explained, there were 22 out of 38 Regencies / Cities in East Java prone to floods. Among them are the area around Kali Welang Rejoso in Probolinggo, Sungai Pekalen in Situbondo. Then the regencies of Bojonegoro, Lamongan, Gresik, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, Jombang, and Mojokerto were usually flooded due to overflowing Bengawan Solo River. In addition, there are 13 districts prone to landslides, such as in Trenggalek, Probolinggo, Bondowoso, Pacitan, Ponorogo, Situbondo, and Banyuwangi. Then 23 districts have the potential to experience drought, and 156 villages in 8 districts prone to tsunamis. "Starting December 2018, there have been 81 floods, 6 flash floods, 105 times strong winds, 32 tornadoes, and 42 landslides. But Alhamdulillah, landslides have not caused many casualties," he said. According to Subhan, East Java Governor Soekarwo has invited the regional government to anticipate, be prepared, and move the potential of the community to deal with disasters in East Java. Efforts were also made by installing an early warning system and preparing 417 disaster-prone villages to become resilient villages. "Including giving an understanding of how to evacuate elderly people, children, and socializing disaster simulations," said Subhan. rk
