Ed Sheeran Breaks Another Record

SURABAYAPAGI.com - Ed Sheeran has received the second Diamond certification for the song ’Shape of You’. The award is a form of appreciation that shows a song of more than 10 million units in sales and streaming The American Recording Industry Association (RIAA), known for removing gold and silver placards that hang on many walls of music companies, gives Diamond awards to Sheeran. Diamond is the highest level of RIAA certification, above multi-platinum, platinum and gold, which is 500 thousand units. This achievement made him the fourth singer to score several Diamond certified songs since the RIAA applied the category 20 years ago. Previous Sheeran ’Thinking Out Loud’ songs reached the same rank in 2017. The English singer and songwriter announced this extraordinary achievement through an Instagram account. "My song Shape Of You is now a diamond in the US! Thank you to everyone who downloads or plays it," the singer wrote. The song ’Shape of You’ is Sheeran’s flagship song from the album in 2017. The album tour set a world record in 2018 for the best-selling tour in a calendar year, amounting to 432 million US dollars. The Grammy winner is also the first singer to have two songs that entered the top 10 debuts on Hot 100. With the single ’Castle On The Hill’ reaching number six on the charts and becoming certified three times Platinum while ’Shape of You’ was also released simultaneously at that moment, reported from Variety on Friday (25/1). rk
