Jefri Nichol Forced to Learn Sundanese

SURABAYAPAGI.com, Jakarta - Actor Jefri Nichol, who is of Minang blood, is demanded to master the Sundanese dialect in order to portray the latest Dreadout film. The film, which is based on the game, has a Sundanese cultural background, shown from the character and speech style of the characters throughout the film. Learning Sundanese accent is one of the challenges faced by Nichol. So far there has been no role that requires talking in certain accents. "When I want to sleep, I hear songs ... Sundanese gamelan," Nichol said after the premiere of Dreadout in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/1). The 19-year-old actor acted as Erik, a high school boy who with his friends videotaped while visiting vacant apartments to increase popularity on social media. The film, directed by Kimo Stamboel (Rumah Dara, Killers, Headshot) is also Nichol’s first film that uses a lot of computer graphics effects. "It’s like a Hollywood standard," he added. Playing in the action-packed horror films is a challenge for Nichol who was the last chosen player in the film. He just entered the ranks of players a few days before the production process. Nichol collided with acting with Caitlin Halderman who acted as Linda, a teenager who accidentally opened a portal to the unseen realm, causing them to run into the face of spirits. This film was adapted from the Dreadout horror game by an Indonesian developer, Digital Happiness, which is already known internationally. DreadOut developer Rahmat Imron revealed that the total revenue of the DreadOut game is only 10 percent from Indonesia. The game released in 2014 has downloaded 2.5 million free users, and 500 thousand paid users. The Dreadout film produced by Kimo Stamboel, Wida Handoyo and Edwin Nazir will be released on January 3, 2019. The film also stars Caitlin Halderman, Marsha Aruan, Susan Sameh, Ciccio Manassero and Irsyadillah. rk
