SURABAYAPAGI.com - Education is a vital sector that must be addressed in Indonesia. Education is also the key so that Indonesia can move forward and be able to compete with other countries. This was said by Dato ’Sri Tahir while filling out a public lecture themed "Poverty, Philanthropy and Community Empowerment" which was held at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Bantul, DIY, Wednesday (11/08). He said, Indonesia is a large nation and rich in natural resources. However, such wealth seems to be lost if you see the condition of the Indonesian people who are still left behind by other countries. For this reason, together with building education, Indonesian people must also think visionary. "Education is a way to change the fate of a nation. If Indonesia wants to move forward, then there must be a change in Indonesian education," said Tahir, who is also the founder of the Tahir Foundation in UMY, Bantul, DIY, Wednesday (11/07). He also explained, there are several ways in which universities (PT) as educational institutions that are able to produce academics are better. Such methods include, PT must be able to make a curriculum that is useful for a long time, even up to 20 or up to the next 40 years. In addition, PT must be able to collaborate with various industries to apply the knowledge learned by students. Even with research done by students, it must also be applied. "Research is a necessity carried out by universities, even though research costs a lot of money and takes a long time, but I’m sure one day the research will definitely be useful in the future, don’t just want good results without a long effort," said Tahir. He also regretted, if there were still PTs that only produced many scholars. However, without prioritizing the study of science. "Do not let universities graduate their students every year without any results, as long as they undergo a maximum education process," he said. For this reason, he advised all students to think about creating and doing something new. "Large wealth will also bring great obligations," he said.
