Rambo Movie Producer Dies

SURABAYAPAGI.com - Andrew G Vajna, Hungarian film producer behind Rambo, Evita, and box office films in the world, died at his home in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday (20/1). Vajnas previously suffered pain for a long time. The Hungarian National Film Fund stated, Vajna produced 59 films in total, including Evita in 1996, starring Madonna and Rambo’s first three films with lead star Sylvester Stallone. Vajna was born in Budapest in 1944 and at the age of 12 when the Hungarian revolution in 1956 against the Soviet government was crushed, he left his country and emigrated to Canada with the help of the Red Cross. He regrouped with his family in Los Angeles, United States. His 1997 comedy film, based on the play entitled Out of Order by British writer Ray Cooney, attracted a lot of people’s interest in watching. Those ticket sales were the highest among Hungarian films produced during the past two decades. Since 2011, he has worked as a government commissioner under Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, leading efforts to revive Hungarian cinema. "We convey goodbye to the biggest Hungarian film producer. Hasta la vista, Andy! Thank you for everything, my friend!" Orban said on his Facebook account. Films during Vajna’s position as commissioner won hundreds of international awards, including Son of Saul, who won an Oscar for painting about life in a Nazi concentration camp. As part of Orban’s efforts to expand its influence on domestic media, Vajna also acquired one of the main commercial television channels in Hungary and owned shares in the commercial radio market. rk
