Police Arrest Collectors of Protected Animal Organs

The man with the initials PL has been named a suspect. "PL suspects are in the category of sellers of protected animal organs," said Deputy Director General of Ditreskrimsus of the Central Kalimantan Regional Police, Teguh Widodo, in Palangka Raya on Monday. The PL who stays in the Central Kalimantan Regional Police detention house is subject to Article 40 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter d, Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Resources and their Ecosystems," he said. Based on Law No.5/1990, everyone is prohibited from trading, storing or possessing the skin of a part of a protected animal, the act will be subject to a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million. Teguh said, the suspect was caught in the hands while trading the skin or parts of the anteater’s organs as much as 16.8 kg at his residence. "Then there are two memorandum of purchase in question to the people who intentionally carried out the hunting of the protected wildlife," he said. The Central Kalimantan Regional Police Investigator Ditresmrimsus continues to develop this case, because some people who are also residents of the Kotim Regency have obtained their identities. Based on the results of the interrogation of the suspect, the pangolin skin is planned to be sold to an area, because there are already ordering. "The 6.8 kg anteater was purchased at a price of Rp. 50.481 million. The PL sold it to people who ordered it for Rp 3.1 million per kg. With that much weight, if sold, the suspect would get Rp. 52 million," said he. Teguh explained, the initial arrest of the suspect was carried out on Friday (11/1), a team that had been formed from Ditreskrimsus conducted an investigation of the concerned based on initial information from the local community. To arrest the person concerned, the officer was forced to pretend to be a buyer, after the pangolin scales were shown to officers in disguise, officers immediately caught the fat-bodied man and the evidence. "After arresting the person concerned, the officers immediately led him to the Central Kalimantan Regional Police Headquarters along with some evidence from the suspect’s residence. The officers were still investigating this case in order to arrest other perpetrators who were also conspiring in the business of this pangolin skin," he said. rk
